A Review on Improved Design Techniques for High Performance Planar Waveguide Slot Arrays

Planar waveguide slot arrays (WSAs) have been used since 1940 and are currently as performing antennas for high frequencies, especially in applications such communication RADAR systems. We present this work a review of the most typical array configurations proposed literature, describing their main limitations drawbacks along with possible effective countermeasures. Our attention has focused mainly on improved available design techniques to obtain performance WSAs. In particular, addressed topics reported following. Partially filled WSAs, or WSAs covered single multilayer dielectric slabs, discussed. The prominent second-order effects planar feeding network introduced accurately modeled. is T-junction array, effect interaction between each coupler radiating slots nearest coupler, bends. All these can critically increase first sidelobes if compared ideal case, causing sensible worsening array.
